Tesla’s Supercharging network is arguably the most efficient and reliable private network in the world.
With more than 40,000 chargers worldwide, the news of Tesla’s move to unlock their Supercharger network, has been welcomed by many Non-Telsa owners.
Many Non-Tesla EV owners have been left frustrated due to the limited number of third party sites, with only 1 or 2 charging bays and often find the chargers ‘out of order’.
In Australia Tesla have 260 active DC fast charging stations across 50 sites and 5 of these sites in NSW have already been unlocked earlier this year.
24 DC fast charging stations in total across the following sites have been unlocked –
- Bathurst
- Dubbo
- Tamworth
- Narooma
- Hollydene
Tesla’s Non-Supercharger Pilot launched in 2021 and the company quote “It’s always been our ambition to open the Supercharger network to non-Tesla EVs, and by doing so, encourage more drivers to go electric.”
Tesla state they will continue to expand to new sites and countries in support of their mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.
This is an encouraging step in the right direction for Australia’s EV adoption and should send a strong message to other charging infrastructure operators to improve the current reliability problems across their stations.
The charges for Non-Tesla EV owners to use the Supercharger Network are 79 cents per kWh for non subscription based customers or 66 cents per kWh for Tesla subscribers plus the $9.99 per month Tesla subscription.
